Where does the Lactoferrin in Sempre Shield capsules come from?

The Proferrin® in our capsules is a premium form of Lactoferrin supplied by a French dairy company which is part of a dairy cooperative and follows the Charter of Good Breeding Practices. It works with the farmers to protect the health of the cows, ensure they have a good diet and ensure the traceability of the animals. The Charter of Good Breeding Practices sets out how the milk is collected, guarantees its quality and ensures good hygiene practices as well.

Sustainability

The dairy company is committed to supporting sustainable dairy production and was awarded the Societal and Environmental Commitment Award in 2021 demonstrating its ethics. The dairy farms in the cooperative are in Northern France. They are small with no more than 50 to 60 cows with plenty of green space and grass for grazing.

Lactoferrin extraction process

Extracting Lactoferrin from milk is a very complicated process. As the protein it contains is sensitive to heat, performing some treatments can denature the Lactoferrin losing some of its benefits. To prevent the denaturing, the lactoferrin in Shield capsules is extracted using a chromatography process and filtration at cold temperatures with a gentle drying process. This retains the natural quality of the proteins, resulting in a very pure Lactoferrin.

What sort of milk is used?

The Lactoferrin in our capsules is extracted from non-pasteurised, raw cow’s milk using a specific process resulting in a good microbiological specification. By using raw non-pasteurised milk rather than the pasteurised milk or whey proteins which some companies use, it means that the Lactoferrin in Shield capsules is in its native form.
