We recognise that plastic pollution is a global problem which the supplement industry needs to address. Plastic waste changes habitats and has an adverse effect on the ability of ecosystems to adapt to climate change. After many years land -filled plastic breaks down into microplastics which then contaminate our water, food and air. This can build up in our bodies, leading to an increased risk of illness. We are committed to playing our part in reducing plastic waste which does so much harm.
What are Sempre’s containers made from?
Our supplement containers are made from wood, naturally occurring minerals and plant-based binders which are certified industrially compostable.
Our supplement containers are made from wood, naturally occurring minerals and plant-based binders which are certified industrially compostable. This 100% biobased material is an award winning alternative to conventional plastics, which is able to biodegrade leaving no permanent microplastics behind. It is digested by naturally occurring microorganisms. The wood originates from sustainably managed farms.
Biodegradable materials can be recycled through organic recycling, which includes industrial composting. This is an aerobic process involving oxygen which takes place under controlled conditions. Several factors govern the time this takes including temperature, moisture and particle size. The outcomes of the process are water, CO2 and compost. The compost contains nutrients which can be utilised to enhance soil quality in the agricultural industry.
We have chosen not to use the additional packaging created by placing the containers in boxes as the best way to prevent waste is not to make it in the first place.
